IWT Swiss Open: Schöpf fell to the champion
The IWT Swiss Open were held from 23 June to 25 June in Schlieren, Zurich. RFA youngster Emanuel Schöpf reached to great results in the Elite draws: he reached the singles semis, in doubles he finished second.
Second place in doubles
Emanuel Schöpf was the only Austrian in the Elite draws of the IWT Swiss Open 2017. The 2016 champions Christine Seehofer and Michi Dickert were missing in Schlieren. The 19-year-old represented the RFA well and had some great results: In the Elite Men’s Doubles competition Schöpf finished second aside the Finn Luka Penttinen. Only Patrick Lorenz/Michael Strässle were to strong for the U21-team. The Swiss won +8 (TT: 14-21, BA: 21-15, SQ: 18-21, TE: 17-21). In singles Patrick Lorenz beat the Austrian from Bludenz in the semis +14 (TT: 22-20, BA: 21-19, SQ: 21-11, TE: 8-8). The Swiss later became singles champion and defeated one after the other the numbers two, four and one of the tournament (Benjamin Hampl, Emanuel Schöpf, Kresten Hougaard) to take hist first IWT-title.
Schöpf has to give up
Emanuel Schöpf could not finish the game for third place in the Elite men’s singles draw. The World Number 18 from Vorarlberg had to give up against Frenchman Cédric Junillon in the third discipline of squash. “My shoulder made some troubles again. Before the tournament I had to make a break. Here I only participated in two competitions to start slow. With my results I have to be satisfied.” If the 19-year-old will have to make a break again is unclear. It’s a matter of fact that he will do everything to be in best condition for the 2. FIR European Racketlon Championships in Wr. Neudorf and Vienna.
Another Austrian traveled to Switzerland: Roland Pichler finished third in the Men’s Amateur Doubles.
